Our Elder Explorers program is specifically designed for older adults, offering enriching nature walks that promote health, wellness, and community. These walks encourage participants to reconnect with nature while learning about local ecosystems.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a knowledgeable and patient Nature Walk Guide to lead engaging and educational nature walks for our Elder Explorers program. The guide will be responsible for organizing and facilitating nature walks that are both enjoyable and informative, fostering a deep connection to the natural world for participants. You will be expected to ensure that the walks are accessible and appropriate for older adults, with a focus on their physical safety and comfort.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with older adults and a passion for nature education, conservation, and outdoor wellness.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and lead nature walks designed to be accessible and enjoyable for older adults.
Share knowledge about local flora, fauna, and ecosystems, emphasizing the health and wellness benefits of spending time in nature.
Ensure the safety and comfort of participants during walks by selecting appropriate trails and maintaining a supportive environment.
Encourage a sense of community and engagement among participants through storytelling, conversation, and nature-based learning activities.
Monitor participant needs and adjust the pace or length of walks as necessary.
Collaborate with OWRV staff to ensure smooth operation and enhance participant experiences.
Qualifications:
Experience in outdoor education, environmental science, or a related field (background in working with older adults is preferred).
Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage and educate participants.
A passion for nature, conservation, and wellness.
Ability to manage the physical demands of leading nature walks, including walking for extended periods and assisting participants as needed.
Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends, when nature walks are scheduled.
